Warning: Democrat post

The people who could have left New Orleans but failed to are morons. There is no way around that determination. "Sticking it out" isnt an option when they tell you a class five hurricane will hit your town that just happens to be below sea level already.

What saddens me more is that fact that we cant overcome the anarchy with relief efforts. At what price do we send thousands to go die for another cause, while we dont even have control over our own people. Do we not have the manpower to send there? If so, then why? Or if we do, then why havent they gone?

I will entertain all reasonable responses.

I suppose the F in FEMA stands for "forgetful"?

Many of the 'morons' don't have the means to pick up and leave when they don't have a car, don't have money for gas, and don't have a place to go. I agree people should have gotten up and left, but many did not have an option.

Opps - I realize you did say people who could leave. I guess it was just a reaction to some other people who have assumed! Sorry!

I don't know if anyone around here is a lawyer, but the inability of the federal military to enfore martial law on its own citizens is called the Posse Comitatus Act.

I'm sure the media is covering the sniper fires and fights more than the good stuff (like rescues and heroism). Bad press is good press for the news press and all that.

But I'm wondering what these people are doing just sitting there. Isn't anyone thinking about rescuing themselves? Instead, they seem determined to wait for the medical choppers.

Again, I hope this is the impression the press has left with their doomsday "Populace left stricken on rooftop" stories. But it does seem that at least a few people could build a makeshift raft and sail it out of there. Regardless, I hope they all get out of there alright.

The best part is the new info that a simulation of such a hurricane that was done in 1999 not only predicts exactly what is happening now- but also was submitted to all necessary local and Federal authorities (accoring to an LSU professor that says he had a meeting with FEMA, and others and gave them all copies of the simulation and report)
