Numb

I have mixed feelings about showing the Virginia Tech Killer's video on the news. On one hand, the public has the right to know what's going on. On the other, society also has an interest in deterring notorious crimes. Would the same number of crimes such as these happen if the killer's knew they wouldnt get any airtime?

This is a tough one. On one hand, I'm morbidly fascinated with these types of cases and I can't help but watch whatever is on the news. On the other hand, I don't know what the deterrence value is of showing these videos? It might just encourage copycats.

I think crazy people are always going to do crazy things. Although positive reinforcement probably isn't a helpful deterrent of these types of things, I don't think he only did this for air time. There are probably a lot of factors that play into these things. It's easy to point fingers at all those who maybe could have stopped this from happening, believe me I have thought of plenty who may be to blame- but in the end the guy who did this is the only real person responsible. He is the only one who had the full power to stop this from happening. There are simply no excuses for the decision that he made. You see all these headlines saying he was picked on and things of that nature. Who cares!!!! Lots of people get picked on, and they don't go on shooting rampages. I really don't care how other people treated this guy, no matter how bad it was it couldn't have even remotely been so bad to "cause" him to do what he did.
