It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that this blog has been dead for a while. Life changes and motivations change. I no longer feel the need to share what is going on, and I definitely dont have time to write regularly.

Thanks to those that have read and given me support through the years. I definitely couldnt have made it where I am today without you. I truly believe that life is what you make of it, and its time to go do just that. I wish you all the best in life. Bye.

There seems to be a big dichotomy between Barbri and PMBR. Barbri takes the easy route and tells you that if you just "stick with it" you will pass. PMBR, on the other hand, tells you that if you dont do 1500 multiple choice problems before the bar exam, you're probably gonna fail. This makes for some very uneven moods. Some days I feel great about the exam, others i feel like i know nothing. Hopefully, in one week from Wednesday I will have done all the studying I need to do for the rest of my life.

There isnt anything interesting about studying for the bar. Its like studying for 14 final exams all at once, only the exams arent spaced out and an even bigger part of your life depends on your performance.

I've been putting the pressure to good use and its been paying off. I still have a long way to go and hope that my studies keep progressing over the next few weeks.

The bar exam is in exactly one month from today. My mental toughness has been fluctuating dramatically lately. Some days I feel completely burnt out, others I readily see how far i've come with the studying and I feel energized. On the days I feel refreshed, nothing will get in my way from owning this test. There's a ton riding on it and im using that as fuel. The people getting negative about it, and there are a ton, wont have a place in my life during the month of July.

I came to law school with an opportunity to make my life better, and I already see the compliments it has paid me. Time to finish the task. Keep your heads up. The prize is is sight.

I find it funny that Barbri employs some of these professors to lecture us. Ostensibly, these teachers are here because they are the best at what they do and Barbri is paying them top notch money to give up their summer vacations (or whatever it is those soulsucking professors do in the off months) and lecture our pathetic asses. So far, the professors have been excellent, that is until today. The professor literally read the entire outline to the class. Slowly. What would have taken me an hour on my own actually took 2.34 when I, and most of the class, decided to walk out. Take that Barbri. I cant wait to get my weekly evaluation. I've been looking for an excuse to break out my new red pen.

The dust has settled and I have nothing to say. Sure, I have a ton I want to say, but prudence tells me this is not the forum. Bar study sucks but there really is no other option. I want to pass and several people's livelihoods depend on me passing. People at school are already turning into dipshits, or must have seen my "I love dipshits so please talk to me" t-shirt. What have you been studying? How many practice questions did you do last night? Inevitably, any amount of avoidance techniques are usually followed up by the dipshits sharing how many questions they did. I find it best to ignore them entirely or lie egregiously about how many problems you worked on. For example, when asked this morning I responded with 300. Its a nice round number. I did 300 fucking problems dude. That usually shuts them up. Becuase no one wants to share that they did 80, which incidentally, is pretty fucking impressive beacuse the questions are so numbing.

I actually sat in Starbucks and stared at one question for 11 minutes. Eleven. Half an Entourage episode. For one question. And in case you were wondering, i got it wrong. July 29.

Life is beautiful. I have to go listen to boring speakers talk about how this new batch of lawyers is going to do good for society. graduation speeches suck. no matter how compelling the speaker is, inevitably they will make the fatal speech mistake. They will over-compliment the graduates. Tell them they all will have jobs at fancy firms with fancy billing requirements. This is the point where our BS meters hit the red zone and apathy becomes the drug of choice among the students. Pan into the sea of graduates, most looking like haggard, on the clearance rack, older versions of themselves. Wiser? Maybe. But you didnt need the last few years to teach you that all you needed to start a greath path for yourself was some persistence. So many have given up, destined to become grinders chipping away at their soul everday. The pieces broken off never grow back. Time renders everything moot at some point but it would be nice to do this thing the right way the first time. A way to make each and every day the best in can be, in ways that will impact the things that matter; the people around you. Get off your ass and make life great.

Our cap and gowns are a joke. Actually they are much worse than a joke. They are downright an embarrassment to all that is right in the world. The cap resembles a beret with stop sign on top complete with a tacky gold tassle that is so short it looks more like a ribbon. The gown is oversized and the sleeves are 2 feet in circumference. Essentially, you could fit five or six arms in the sleeve (giggity giggity). The coup de gras is the purple stripes and ruffles around the shoulders.

After trying the ensemble on for my roommate and his girlfriend, I was met with 10 minutes of laughter. Why must the culmination of my law school career end with such humility? Togas would be less tacky.

I'm studying the next few days for my Secured Trans exam on Friday. I really want the test to be over with, but there's a small part of me that will miss this experience. Maybe not the hellish hours, or the boring material, but the overall experience has been enjoyable for me. Knowing that I only have a few days left of this is keeping me here at the library.

Two finals down. Wills and Trusts was not particularly pleasant, but most of my fellow students walked out of that exam clueless like me. Trademark was ridiculous, just like the professor's lectures. To call the exam time pressured would be like calling Paris Hilton flirty. It just doesnt do the phrase justice. I barely finished, and mostly because i am good about getting to every issue rather than going into a few in much detail.

Now the only thing that stands between me and my diploma is Secured Transactions. Its fitting that my last final of law school is in a dreaded UCC class. Regardless, it must be done.

On the horizon is all the planning for the firm and my europe trip. And there is also that little exam in July that apparently i have to take. Still, much needs to be done. But somehow law school teaches you that unless you are studying, you really arent that busy. Or so it seems.

Anyway, this post signals the beginning of the end. I've been considering killing this blog for a while now. There are just too many things on here i no longer wish to share with some people. I dont know when im taking this sucker offline. Maybe a day, maybe a month. Thinking about starting another blog...

As im getting dressed yesterday morning, I turn on the news to check and see whether my pirate pants and bandanna are going to be enough to keep me warm throughout the day. Instead of the usual display of fender benders and predictions of rain, the TV was filthy with Jared from Subway. Not a commercial. An interview with Jared "im famous for the wrongest of reasons" Subway. Apparently he was in town hocking Subway's new "tastes and looks like shit sandwiches". I couldnt turn off the TV fast enough.

Later, as i drive home from school, i turn on my favorite radio station, ready to rock out to the greatest hits of the 80's, 90's and more! The phrase "Serenity now!" didnt do the moment justice. The biggest fear I have about practicing on my own straight out of law school is the lack of practical knowledge i have. This is a very controversial area of law academia right now. For some reason the schools have mounted a fairly successful defense against teaching law students practical skills that might enable them to practice straight after the bar. While practical curriculum is being taught at more schools each year, the emphasis remains on theory. In fact, the only schools emphasizing practical experience are poorly ranked which doesnt make the least bit of sense.

The solution: either make practical courses 30-50% of the curriculum or allow students to gain practical experience during the school year in addition to the jobs and externships they take as a matter of course.

Today is my last law school class ever. I'm kinda happy about that. Three years of hard work and im finally closer to achieving my goals. While the tension around the library has been rising considerably, I have been lucky to surround myself with the less stressed out students. Yesterday, a student turned the ringer on his cell phone on high and put his phone in another student's backpack. Then the student had someone call his phone. You can imagine the embarassment of the other student when the silence of the library was pierced by the sweet lyrics to sexual healing. The entire library broke out in applause. Yeah, its the little things that count.

I've thought long and hard about this. Right now I'm 75% sure that im going to start up a small partnership after law school and give it a go. I'm a businessman at heart and dont like waiting to be spoon fed my miserable assignments, which seems to be the type of work any associate gets at a firm. This isnt a case of the grass being greener, its a case of logic. If im going to put in long hours, I want them to be for myself. Sure, there are risks. Many of them, in fact. I'm probably going to have to take out another loan to cover the start up costs. I dont have any clients. Yet. I do, however, have unbridled ambition that has found its proper calling.

I might fail, but it wont be for a lack of trying. And either way, I will look forward to getting up in the morning and going to work, something most people will never say in their lifetime.

I dont have time to write a post that does the recent tradgedy in Virginia justice. I do, however, want to stimulate some conversation on gun laws and protection in the US.

One on hand, countries that ban guns entirely have a lot less violence. Look at Japan, they've had 50 shootings in one year. 50! There's more than fifty in Portland a month.

On the other hand, the constitution grants Americans the right to bear arms.

So where is the middle ground?

You have to fight fire with fire if you plan on winning. People need to be educated and trained on the proper use of guns. This would reduce the stigma attached to gun ownership and encourage honest, law abiding citizens to carry heat.

Also, institutions that have thousands of people, such as universities, need to have more properly trained armed people on campus. We need more security guards by the hundreds. The schools CAN afford this. If the mall can, a private school charging 30k in tuition can. Public schools can get funding as well. The money isnt the issue though. Americans dont like to admit that we are weak.

Criminals carry guns and frequently use them. So why not the general public? Think about it.

Two days in a row I have awoken from the same dream only to find that I have one minute before my alarm clock goes off. Coupled with the fact that it is nice outside and im sitting in class right now and im plum for the picking.

Had a great night last night. Started off with a few drinks with some classmates and ended up seeing a midnight showing of "300". Great movie, great cinematography, equally great character development. Not so great was the fact that I had to pee pee the entire movie but was too stubborn to go. If you can get to an IMAX to catch this one, i definitely recommend it.

Also, after my various trips to tattoo parlors and watching miami ink, i have discovered that i really like the art displayed in tattoo shops. The savvy tattoo shops would advertise the art and tie it in with their services. I should have bought that 5ft dragon painting when I saw it.

I have decided to take the Oregon Bar in July. No specific reason, I just cant find another place that compels me. Thought about Chicago and Seattle, but neither feel right at this point in my life.

This term has been the busiest of law school thus far, with a 30 page term paper, 15 credits, and an almost full time job. The job is treating me well. I am learning alot and my boss is great mentor. I look forward to finishing up school and starting practice.

Lately, I havent had much time for TV, although im guilty of watching Maui Fever and Miami Ink. Planning a Europe trip for after the bar.

Not sure how much longer I plan on continuing this blog. I just dont feel like sharing the details of my life like I used to. Hope everyone is doing well.

The interview went extremely well today. I was offered and accepted the position on the spot. The four person firm focuses mainly on business and real estate matters, exactly what im looking for. The partner spent almost three hours with me, and at various times, was very forthcoming with compliments regarding my background and credentials. He stressed the variety of work i would receive and for the first time in my student career, someone was actually chasing after me to work for them.

I already received my first project and deadlines and have a ton of work to get done in the next few weeks. It should be challenging to juggle everything considering that i have 15 pages to go on my paper and 5 other demanding classes. Its time to buckle down and get things done.

Prof Trademark asked for participation this morning. Yours truly gave it to him, with an answer verbatim from my IP class last term. Then, PT had the nerve to tell me i was wrong, without offering any rationale explanation why. Much to my satisfaction, a few other classmates that were in IP chimed in and agreed with me.

Morale of the story: classes at 8am taught by toothless professors are annoying.

My classes thus far:

Secured Transactions: UCC Article 9 and all the other stuff i need to know for the bar. This one should be my hardest this term. If i go. And turn off the internet. And stop text messaging.
Trademark Law: The teacher unilaterally changed class from 8:30 am to 8. Then he stated that 100 pages of reading a week was barely enough. Subsequently assigned 60-65 per class. TG for case summaries.
Wills/Trusts: the silvery haired teacher rambles on and on. and on. and on. Surely he must have some type of senility. i hope he has his estate planning in order. The end cant be very far.
Lawyers in Society: aka recess. aka fun time. We discuss lawyers and the different issues they face in society, like being rich and stuff. Or what to do when your butler calls in sick and you want fresh made waffles. 3 writing assignments, no final. Our first class discussed why lawyers are hated by society and a couple lawyer jokes were told.
Family business seminar: this class was canceled this week because of snow. Had it been in session, it probably would have dealt with owning a family business and the legal issues that arise. Like when a family member takes money from your business and blows it all on a stripper named penelope. Not that this has happened to me, but just in case it does, i want to be prepared. Because a true friend stabs you in the front.

All in all, classes look good this term.

How much has law school changed you? Probably not much if you aren't a law student. But for those like me, my self identity has changed drastically. As a mentor of mine, poignantly stated, "the law is a seductive bitch." It reels in creative, idealistic masses, and spits them out jaded and weary of what follows. The bar is a hoop as is the job hunt. We are drones, driven by the enormous debt, destined to take the best paying job we can get. Why? Because 1300 a month student loan payment isnt going to pay itself.

Still, I wouldnt trade it for anything. It was all worth it. Even through all the hell. Its one more arrow in my quiver. I dont feel like my peers; the last three years are not a waste. I look back at the last three years with fondness. How many of life's important choices come with the same conclusion?

Vacation is almost over and I dont have much to show for it. Well, unless you consider the fact that I have been averaging 9.5 hours of sleep a night, am in decent shape, and can still drop it like its hot.

I suppose i am pumped to start this term, mostly so i can get it over with. I have a 30 page paper that I am 4 pages deep on. I have a month to pick where to take the bar exam. I dont have a job, unless you consider fondling Victoria's Secret mannequins to be full time employment. I am, however, "rich" because of you guys. My dear readers. Even you, Anonymous Stalker, despite the fact that you are a forty year old man, creepily posting on my blog while parading around your parent's basement wearing Martha Stewart brand lingerie.
